The Daveys - a preface

A few weeks ago Gareth reposted a video from circa 2012 when me, him, Tracey and mum and Dad 'Jumped Skegness'. It was a crazy silly day - a cold English type of a winter day - chilly and wet,  where we all took turns to jump off things with the Skegness Clock Tower some distance behind us.

But we all did it.

Mum and dad were in their 70s with not long to continue on this mortal coil.

This is the video

It brings back so many cool funny and painful memories. Mum actually hurt herself jumping and you can see in the video that it cuts away as she lands, because she fell. I wish I hadn't suggested it, but am so glad I did because my mum  - all 4 ft 10inches of her, was one of the strongest and hardest women you could ever meet. Dad was a bit softer - more of a storyteller - In fact a lot of a storyteller. Some stories were absolutely unbelievable but 100% true. others just as unbelievable and we will never know how much bullshit was involved although we can guess that there was a lot. Dad would also do anything for anyone at any time - Many times he drove to pick us up from somewhere in England because we asked him to.

I was taken aback when Gareth posted the video I had created  - because I had forgotten about it even though I made it myself just a few short years ago. So, I decided I should do something about these memories we all have and try to give my own kids the opportunity to learn about their long-gone UK based Gran and Grandad and the rest of the Davey family that are spread around this oddly shaped, slowly decaying world we share.

So, over the next few weeks and months, I will endeavour to delve into my memories and describe part of the Davey family history as I remember it.

These are my memories and interpretations.

I don't pretend to know everything,  and I know that there is a lot I don't know, There will definitely be a lot of guesswork, so Gareth, Chris, Catherine, Brenda, Eleanor, Mark, Sarah, Joyce, Tracey, Sharon, Mike and Jimmie and whoever the hell else reads this  - if you have something to add, any facts to correct, an opinion or anything at all to say, to add or just to comment,  let me know  - I will adapt and re-arrange the entire project to get as much correct as I can.

I am doing this for me, my kids and for the world in General!

I'm going to try to describe things as I remember them, so I apologise if I get things wrong or cause any upset -  some parts will hopefully draw a chuckle or maybe even tears of joy. Some of it will no doubt, like my dad's old stories - be complete bullshit and codswallop and you will read it with a sigh of disbelief - Just like we used to do when dad drew a breath and began to speak. I hope to bring back a few happy memories for whoever reads it, those that were there and anyone with any other investment or interest in our little family -

It will begin soon with 'Mum and Dad - The beginning'
