People are just shit - might as well do it yourself

I am doing something pretty unusual - I am actually starting this entry, just a few minutes after finishing the last one.
At the moment I feel the need to be doing something, anything - I just want to be busy.

We have another 9 days to wait, (update - this was due today - details are later in this post) till we can get a phone interview with the Assessor for the car crash - he wants to talk about 'something, we don't yet know what - But we hope it's just because the crash was a hit and run and that we have to have an interview to confirm what happened before they can start to fix or write off the car.

Its so bloody annoying though because I already spent an hour on the phone with MPI Insurance and asked specifically:-
'It says on the website I have to arrange a meeting with the assessor because it's a hit and run. Do I have to still do this or does talking to you suffice?'   Her answer -' No, you don't have to worry about that!'.
Well, I call smelly bullshit!

So now we are stuck, not able to do anything until Wednesday 6th October, when we will have this 'interview'.  It's a good job I have great bosses at work who have lent me a car to use - for free,  as the insurance only covers us for 30 days of car rental (although we would have to pay $12 a day for CDW)
At this rate, we would have used 18 days of car hire before we even get an inkling about what's happening with the yellow monster.
After 30 days we would be on the hook for full price car rental and the CDW. Probably around $65 a day minimal. Plus the $12 a day we would already have spent when we were actually covered. This is all bullshit. It would have cost us $360 just for 30 days of CDW plus however much a rental would cost till we get a new car or ours is fixed.

I am sorry to say that this is how things seem to work here in Winnipeg and it...is...grinding....me....down....
I can't vouch for the rest of Canada, but things happen so slowly here and once again, it feels like the big bratwurst of doom lightly slaps us round the chops again and again until we can't take it anymore. It's no wonder me and Buffy are both losing our fucking minds,.  That's why we need to keep busy - Busy minds are not thinking about all the absolute bollocks that we have gone through this summer.

And the shit just kept on falling - right into the big whirly twirly fan and that brown smelly shit just came right our way......again.....

Ok, you probably won't believe this, but the day after writing the paragraphs above, I was doing exactly what I mentioned - keeping busy - I was out in the backyard tidying up, fixing the garage door which has been sticking and generally keeping busy. It ws a hot day, so after chiselling away at a tree stump which is a little bit in the way of our back gate, I went inside for a shower to wash away the sweat. I was in the house for about half an hour and that was just enough time for the friendly neighbourhood thieves to get into the back yard, enter the garage through the door I had stupidly left unlocKed and steal BOTH of mINE and Buffys bikes -  About $1000 worth of bikes, complete with bike seat for Hannah. Yep, our summer of fucking shit continued!

So what to do - well, I immediately headed down to the bridge by the river where there are a few homeless people living, but there was no sign of them there. Then, I went and picked Hannah up from daycare, nonchalantly told her that the bikes had been stolen and went to pick Buffy and Oliver up from Grandmas. I got there and said ' Bikes were nicked'. Buffy's reply - 'Oh ok'. Then we came home.

Honestly, I could not give less fucks at the moment. We have two directions we could go - Down down down or Up Up Up. So up we shall fly. We refuse to cry, so we may as well fucking laugh!

Fuck the thieving scumbags who stole the bikes. Fuck the dickhead who hit the car. Fuck Covid. Fuck everything. Me and Buffy and the kids are now firmly entrenched in our own little protective circle, like the wagons being surrounded by the Indians in the old wild west movies. Only instead of sitting cowering in the wagon there waiting for the Indians to put us down with arrows, we are going to stand up and shout - Come on then MutherFuckers - Give it your best!!

We got home, locked the garage, went and had dinner, watched TV and the next day I went out and bought a second-hand bike for $75 and a child seat too, just like the one that was nicked. - so that our little girl can still enjoy a nice ride out with mum and dad should she so wish. The 'new' bike is now firmly attached to a huge lump of old oak that is firmly attached to the garage wall and would take at least 3 spineless thieves to pry from the wall.

Our summer  -

How we feel now....
plus....

After all this bollocks we still had a pretty good week.
My self and Buffy finally made it out for a 5th anniversary night. Our first full night out away from home without the kids.

We actually got ourselves a nice AirBnb in the city, on the 13th floor of a city centre apartment building with a rooftop patio and super views for miles!

We also got a table at the newest exclusive Restaurant in the city - James St Pumphouse - an awesome place to eat in a really unusual building. The old pump house still has the old pumping machinery. that was actually built around 1907 and derelict for the last few years. Instead of knocking down the building and doing something new, the architects designed a restaurant, office space and living spaces that surround the old industrial machines and bring it all to life. It was amazing to sit there and stare through floor to ceiling windows at a piece of history. The food was great, the atmosphere superb and the night out was just fantastic - We weren't lingering over any of the shit things that have happened recently, but if we were this would have been the ideal place to forget about them!

Here are a few photos from the apartment, the restaurant and the roof!!

Anyway, it's now the evening of Oct 6th - after a dramatic day when Buffy's phone suddenly lost all connection just as the insurance adjustor was due to call. Luckily, he rang my number shortly after trying hers and we managed to get the interview sorted out. However, it was just the same exact questions and answers we had from the Insurance girl I originally gave the details to on Sep 20th and in the emails, Buffy sent to the adjustor last week. What a waste of time. We still don't know whether the car will be written off or not (we are guessing it probably will)  and now have to wait for the actual assessor to get in touch. But we are sick of waiting. I have put a refundable deposit down on a new Seltos in white, that arrives at the same Kia dealer we bought this one from. If the car gets written off, we will have this one ready to go when it arrives at the end of the month, If not, I will cancel the deposit and get my money back. Somebody has to be proactive in all the fucking malarky and as usual, it is me and Buffy,  Honestly, I dont trust anybody to do anything apart from me and her at the moment. No offence, but people are useless and the processes in place to get things done are put in place by useless people. If you need something done - just do it yourself.

Well, that's enough from this update -here's some cute kid stuff -

  1. Sounds like a tough week! sorry to hear about your bikes, sounds like you're trailblazing forward nonetheless so I say right on ! Keep up the good shit when all the other shit is shit lol. You and Buffy are always so good to be around, you're both champions of positivity! So sleep like a champ, and get up and kick some more ass tomorrow.
