Whale, Elephant, Crickets, Seagulls and a Robot

Another weekend has arrived and I sit alone but for the whale shaped pillow that rests next to me, alone but for the pizza rescued from the night out last evening and alone but for the sound of crickets and seagulls that floats down the stairs from the small bedroom. Just a normal weekend.

I sit alone as Captain Buffdom has gone for a massage to ease her aching, pregnancy misaligned back muscles. I will pick her up in a couple of hours and head out to buy more small sized things to add to the collection of small sized things we are accumulating in our small sized bedroom from whence the previously mentioned seagulls and crickets make their noise.

The whale pillow is   was Buffy's favourite pillow. It was bought last Christmas and she has spent so much time cuddled up to it, it has become a close 2nd to Taz for the thing Buffy like to cuddle most. But alas the Whale pillow is now almost forgotten due to her new cuddle companion - Elephant legs.

Whaley is sad.
So do I need a baby alert now???

Errr ok.. BABY ALERT - BABY ALERT - BABY ALERT - BABY ALERT BABY ALERT.

So because Buffy has a rabbit sized (according to her pregnancy app) noise monster pushing around her inner organs to other places within her body, she has issues with getting comfy. Basically the usual bad back and other pregnancy related issues. All quite normal, but not pleasant. So she wanted to find something to make life a little more comfortable. Hence the search for a full body pillow. She found one, ordered it and fell in love with what looks like the legs of a tall but saggy old woman, stuffed into extra long fluffy grey tights with the feet chopped off. . Or a pair of disconnected elephant legs.

The legs.
The idea is to lie between the legs (oooh missus fhar fnar) and use them to take some of the weight off your back and belly. Like this...

Not my wife, or my pregnancy or our pillow.
It seems to work remarkably well and Buffy is definitely happy to go to bed now. She is sleeping better and we are all happy. Apart from Whaley.

 Poor Whaley.

Other things that are helping out with sleep are the crickets and the seagulls. Sort of.

We have been using an app that plays nature type sounds that create a nice atmosphere as you drift off to sleep. The app has a lot of different sounds such as rivers, storms, birds, traffic noise and even brown and pink noise. Some are weird but some, like the rivers and rain are really relaxing - so we turn on the rain at night, turn on the humidifier which helps pregnant women not get runny noses in bed and we drift away as the sound plays and the humidity stays damp. Its all very new age, but pleasant.

But we don't really use the noise of crickets and seagulls to sleep with. They are playing upstairs for a different reason -

SECURITY.

So, with baby rabbit on the way, we have been busy making lists and looking into all the shite we need to look after the little poop machine. Diapers, clothing, bottles and all sorts of stuff have been identified and added to a ever growing list of things.

One of my favourite things has been the search for a baby cam, so that we can leave the baby at home making movies while we go to the pub or on Holiday to the Dominican Republic. Then when we get home the baby will be so good at making movies he or she will be a Hollywood director and we can retire - Hurray!! What? That's not what a baby cam does? Its for filming the baby. Fuck. That's that plan out of the window.

I'll start again...

One of my favourite bits of stuff has been the search for a baby cam, so that we can safely leave the baby sleeping in its mouldy cardboard box cot, while we try to have fun watching sport and drinking booze get some sleep. We decided to try some home security cameras that allow you to log on through an app on your phone and they are surprisingly fun to play with. We ordered 3 different ones off Amazon, knowing we can return the two we don't want to keep.

So the first one was just crap, so that lasted  minutes before being boxed up and returned. The other two are quite good though -

One looks like a little robot - which is cool  - and the other is a standard camera shape. But they both have the ability to record video, they move so you can sweep the room to see everything and they have good night vision - so the only way to differentiate between them is to leave them on, and over a number of days log in and out to see what happens. So the bedroom now looks like this....(watch the short video its only 20 seconds or so)

In the video you see Ross (The Roswell alien that abducted me in the famous video I posted to YouTube a few years back) being used as a baby replacement, sat in his little chair listening to the sound of Crickets and Seagulls playing on his phones app. The sounds are to test the capability of the cameras in listening to the bedroom. In the video we then move around to the cameras that are mounted on a shelf above the cot. Its a cool little set up and a nice way to test out the cameras. One of the cameras also has the ability to make its own hot spot and therefore not need an Internet connection. If this works well enough it means we could possibly use it at the cabin in summer!

Anyway, testing is ongoing and in the next few days we will decide (Ross will decide) which camera to keep and which to send back to the Jungle (Amazon)

So Pizza. Why morning after Pizza?

That's because we went out last night for a few beers with a few mates and brought the pizza home.

Originally. last night was supposed to be a night out with Cousin Will and Anna (Wills girlfriend). The plan was to go to Langside Grocery for drinks and snacks, but when the Jets playoff dates were announced a game clashed with our plan. So we decided to head to a local pub - The Bella Vista to watch the game and have dinner before going for cocktails at the Grocery later.

It turned out to be a great plan, as Mike and Rebecca (Mum and dad to our favourite neighbour - 1 year old Holland) decided to join us at the pub. Holland came along too when we discovered that the pub was baby friendly and we had a great night watching the Jets go 2 up after 2 games of the 7 game playoffs.

We then headed out with Will and Anna and spent a lovely couple of hours drinking cocktails before walking/taxiing/bussing home in the early hours.

It was because of the Jets game that we ended up in, and discovered that the Bella is baby friendly, and we now have plans in place to head there as a foursome with our crazy kids for beers and sport whenever we want. A lovely little friendly pub that is literally 2 minutes and 45 seconds walk from home.

So a good night out was enjoyed by all.

I have now finished my pizza and its nearing the time that I grab the remaining two slices to take around to Buff after her massage. Then its off out into the wilds of Winnipeg to search for small versions of big things.

Taraa for now.
Yerp.
