Sturgess and the aliens who made winter.

Tis the 30th and final daylight era in the most April of months of the 2013 year since nothing really happened.

Finally and thankfully, the space monkeys from the planet winter, have taken their leave from this small floating rock we have jokingly named earth. (since most of it is water) They have flown away with their snow making death rays to terrorise, maim tease and finally destroy other hapless and helpless beings in an as yet unknown galaxy. I wish them luck in their endeavours and look forward with glee to the arrival of the next atomically powered beings from another dimension. These new beings will be bringing their heat rays which which they will attempt to slowly burn their way through our weak pink coverings - until we brown and peel like huge humanoid shaped grapes - seedless of course.

If you have read this far - then you are no doubt wondering what the hell I am on about - so I will translate......

Winter is over, the snow is melted and soon it will be summer. (Wasn't it much more fun to read the first paragraph?) We have finally come to the end of one of the longest and coldest winters since the last one. In the last few days the weather has greatly improved - we have had sunshine, the snow has nearly all gone and an English summer has arrived - yes its raining. Heavily. I love this weather and will be venturing outside sometime today to wander aimlessly around the streets of Winnipeg until my clothes are wet and my hair resembles a Yorkshire terrier who has just got out of a puddle. Oh, how I love the English weather - even though we are in Canada.

'Enough of the weather though' I hear you cry - 'we also have weather here too', you add. 'Shhhhh', is my response - this is my blog- you have no input (unless you wish to comment or email, but I know you wont) so I will continue for a short while with the subject matter in hand........ well at least with some photos of it, like these ones you see now.......
The river - just a few short days ago - still frozen

Sunday 10am - a large sheet of ice floats down river and gets stuck.....

2 hours later  - the river is blocked by the ice and a natural dam is created

Early the next day - the ice has all gone and the river runs free - run river run - run as fast as you can!!

On the two days between work - we ventured out into the eerie quietness of the countryside that surrounds our metropolis and spent a lovely evening with a pair of humanoids that are related to the one I share my abode with. We shall call them Meagan and Brent. A lovely dark night was taken together, sitting around eating lots of cheese - on a board. A cheeseboard! We spent ages eating this cheese board whilst drinking mind altering liquids (beer) and verbalising our experiences and theories about just what the hell we are doing with our short and unfulfilled breathing time (We chatted about all sorts of stuff)

The nest morning, which as is usual after a Friday - was a Saturday - we took a pleasant wander around the local vicinity and had the pleasure to be joined in our quest by a large brown haired mammal who shares the wooden construction we had been resting in. He is a dog called Sturgess and he was also celebrating the end of the cold time of the year - by clambering through the remains of the alien snow drifts and generally doing doggy type things in the warming winter water.

Sturgess enjoying the last of the snow...

Playing dead

The canadian icebergs are melting!!

The winter is over.......what else is happening -

Well the famous (in Winnipeg anyway) Blue Bombers football team (By football I mean Canadian Football - which is nearly the same as American football - but not soccer, which is real football) has moved to its new stadium in the south of the city and  so I took a look around the old stadium before it is all gone. Its located right by the shops I visit every Monday morning. The bulldozers moved in a few days ago and have started to tear down the old place - It looks really sad and lonely at the moment and is to be replaced by even more shops - I think they should build something more useful - like a huge ski/snowboard slope or a factory making animal shaped radiators for kids bedrooms. Imagine being 6 and having to choose between a radiator shaped like a monkey and one shaped like a Turtle - choices choices.....

anyway here's what the stadium looks like at the moment....

(queue the death march tune)

or something else that is sad

Bye bye old stadium...

If you made it this far then I will do one of those look forward things you now get on the serial dramas on TV -

Please stay tuned for an excerpt from the next episode........

In the next episode you will discover the plan for the next and final leg of my quest to visit all 50 states of the USA - CAN YOU GUESS WHERE I WILL BE GOING? WHAT WILL I BE DOING AND HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE!?!?

Come back soon to find out...............
