Sleep as you land, delicious brown tomatoes and a Costa Rica viking mud man photo

Monday 8th April and on any other Monday morning we would be up with Hannah around 7am when the little bugger starts to 'talk' to herself in her crib. But today was different, we had a flight to catch and we knew she would be up about 3am and therefore we would lose a whole pile of sleep before boarding the plane. So when we woke at 7 and she was still out and after getting ourselves dressed and ready - she was still out - wondered if the wonder baby had emerged and she knew the extra sleep would help her ad us through a long days travelling. She obviously did not realise that extra sleep meant easy travelling as during the rest of the 12 hour sit took us to get to Costa Rica she only slept for about 1 hour and 30 minutes of that was in y arms as the plane landed in Central America.

Hannah also met Aunty Nancy, a nice dog and a Polar Bear RCMP officer at the airport.

During the rest of the day we had played with her on two flights - meeting other babies and charming the passengers before screaming her head off to prevent sleep for us, anyone else on the flight and herself. On any normal day she would sleep for 13 hours or so  yesterday she had just over 9 hours, which is the least sleep she has ever had in one day. Right now as I type this sitting in the shade of our breakfast table, Hannah is sleeping in her little peapod getting over a long day and we are enjoying the warm start to a Cont Rican morning.

Apart from the lack of sleep yesterday went really well  - Flights were on time, all the baggage made it and we even had time to order beers at Toronto airport - via the tinterweb. The wonders of modern technology knows no bounds. We arrived just after 8.30pm local time and after collecting bags we checked into a small BandB just 5 minutes from the airport. As with everything to come on this short trip, Hannah takes priority - we have learned the hard way that if she doesn't sleep, then that day and the next night we will also suffer. So it's going to be a trip where she learns to sleep  wherever she lays and we learn to mellow out and relax while she does so.
We have plans to visit a few different places and stay in some (hopefully) spectacular locations, but for now we wait for her highness and will head into San Jose early this afternoon to take over our first AirBnB.

Arrival
It's now 3.6234 days later approximately and we have enjoyed our first few days in country. We had already decided to take it easy at first, let Hannah get used to the sun and allow ourselves a few days rest to get over the journey. That turned out to be a good decision as Hannah was definitely tired after the flights and we spent our time enjoying the pool and wandering around San Jose. It's not a huge city, so in one afternoon we walked through the city centre all the way to one of the Barrios where there is a cool market and lots of cafes and coffee shops. The sun was beating down and so we ended up enjoying a nice lunch with some craft beers and a certain soccer match showing on TV. Hannah also introduced into the game of baby jenga - where the baby plays much better than the adults and actually removed three jenga blocks on her own without knocking down the tower that was a s big as she is.

We also spent time in the big park near to our apartment, where we took a walk across to the National stadium and around the nice lake. the weather was lovely and w had a huge rainbow in the sky, which lit up the bloke dressed as a viking, carrying an axe who was getting photographed tramping around in the mud by the lake... a weird thing to watch.....
what the absolute Fxxx?

Awesome accidental photo of Viking man in mud. Professional photographers know how to do this

Yesterday we took an afternoon OT of the city and went on a trip to a farm. This farm is run by Gabriel and Mima, a couple who met at university and have set up their own eco-farm in the hills overlooking the city. It was a really nice day, tasting fresh fruit and veg that we picked off the plants ourselves ad taking a tour of the farm, where everything is re purposed to get the plants and produce to grow. They even have a system to repurpose their own poop to put on the banana trees that grow right by the toilet. It reminded me on a Costa Rican version of Matt Damon in The Martian, without the trauma an journey to Mars. After a tour of the farm we enjoyed a great meal which we helped to cook, full of the good things we had picked - Including chocolate cherry tomatoes - which were brown in colour but deliciously sweet to taste. Hannah loved playing wit the dogs and after a couple of beers with lunch we got  loft back to the city from Gabriel, stuffed with food and full of ideas he gave us of places to visit over the next while.

The end of a great day

We have one last afternoon in San Jose before we head out to see the rest of the country. We are very excited to discover some cool things and stay in w=some weird places. For now though it's a bit of laundry and when Hannah wakes up we will go out for one last afternoon stroll in the city.
