Blowing up the Brent and feeding babies to Bisons

So, here we are again. It's Jan 1st, the start of a new beginning which will end with another one in 365 days. Christmas, holidays or whatever you want to call it without upsetting anyone, is over for another year. Stan Claws broke into your house, yanked on his saggy sack and spilt his presents all over your nice floor, before nicking a carrot for his drunk reindeer and flying off again without so much as a hello, goodbye or sorry for the mess.

If you are like us, your recycling bin is now full and you are planning on when to take down the dead tree which is starting to attract the squirrels. Your fridge is full of stuff you never want to eat or drink again and you are looking forward to work, so that you have  purpose in life again till Valentines/mothers day/ winter holidays OT tax season starts.

It was a good time though. Hannah hasn't a clue what's going on but loved to be the centre of attention wherever she went,
As an adult things are at least more understandable. Buy presents, give presents, receive presents, say thank you. Eat, drink. Repeat. Simple.
The joy of Xmas is being off work for a few days and being able to day drink with friends, family and people you barely know. It's just like a summer holiday, without the beach and tiny umbrellas.

Christmas for us was pretty spot on this year. Due to Hannah not being able to drive us home yet, we decided our traditional Xmas Eve drinks should be in the afternoon instead of evening and were joined by Jon, Susan, Alana and Stef for a spot of lunch and a few drinkies at the Grove. I stayed one or two beers too long (haha) and then a bottle of wine later at home, Xmas Eve was over for me. it was a great afternoon though with new friends met at the pub and Blackadder's Xmas Carol ticked off the watch list.
Little beer for a little person

Christmas day was great too. Present giving at Jon and Susan's with Pat, Erica and Stef, then opening our own presents at home before a trip to Meg and Brent's in Anola for dinner, trivia and death defying fireworks.

There were a lot of memorable things that my memory will remember, so before it does I shall fill you in on the details.

On Xmas eve, me and Buff decided to open a present from each of us. I took the smallest present Buffy had left under the tree and nearly burst into tears, Last year I had been given a small figurine or statue of my mum in a scooter, just like the one she used to have after dad died. it has been sitting in our mini village, which has Master the dinosaur overlooking it, complete with his bowler hat.
When I opened this little present, inside was a similar figurine - this time the figure of a man, mowing his lawn. Wearing clothes and a hat, almost identical to what my dad used to wear wile doing his gardening. I welled up - it was the perfect little present - and now mum and dad share the village in our lounge and as I take a little look over every now and then and smile. It's lovely./

After Xmas eve and opening presents at with the family at Jon and Susans, we made our way out to Anola for the yearly get together.
There were around 20 of us there this year and as usual we all had a great time. A nice afternoon sat chatting in front of a roaring fire was followed by a lovely Xmas dinner. Then in the evening we had a big Trivia quiz hosted superbly by Susan - once the WiFi started to behave - and then a new addition to Xmas - trying to blow up the Brent ( or what most people just call Fireworks).

Someone this year had acquired a big box of industrial looking fireworks, that really should be handled by sober professionals - not us bunch of lunatics after beers and wine. it all started off nicely enough - a couple of spinning fireworks thrown on the ground followed by some rockets. Then a few minutes in something went wrong - one of the rocket type ones went along the ground instead of in the air. A small explosion was followed by a bigger one with a certain Brent shaped person right in the middle of it all. He was enveloped in a huge flash followed by a typical glow of colour as the fireworks did what it was designed to do  - albeit a couple of hundred feet below the required altitude. A few shouts and gasps followed when Brent stepped back and then just bursts of nervous drunken laughter as we all realized that there was no damage to anyone. I would to show you a film of this but no one was filming - Oh wait, yes I was!!! It all occurs about 3 minutes in and if you decide to pause the movie at the right spot you can see the huge flash with Brent in the middle.

No Brent's were harmed in the making of this movie...

After the fireworks a few people gathered for the annual Caribou Cup Boot Hockey tournament and a few more beer before bed.

Here are a few highlights from Xmas day.....

On Boxing day I sat with Susan for a couple of hours watching Ole Gunnar Solskjaers rejuvenated Man United team win another game before breakfast after which we said goodbye to most people who were heading home. We stayed for a few hours to chat, watch a good movie and for me to relax in Meg and Brent's huge bath (Thanks again I love a good Boxing Day soak) we also took Hannah out for a chilly walk and took some photos while we were out. A lovely end to the Xmas get together.

Re-creating the usual Xmas photo!
I headed back to work on the 27th and enjoyed a couple of days learning to program the new equipments we have... It's called Wildix, and I won't go on about it, but it's the future and we are all really excited about it at work.

The last couple of days have been really nice. Mellowing out with our little 3 person family. We watched ome good TV, Took Hannah out to Fort Whyte for a walk in the snow, some lunch and to see the Bison. We had a few beers at home and also drove the perimeter listening to Podcasts as Hannah had her late afternoon snooze in the back and the sun went down all around us. We also stopped by to see the newly installed GARBAGE HILL sign, which is mush better that that cheap Hollywood one!

So that was the Winter Holiday. All done and dusted for another year. Now it's back to normality. Hannah is a little under the weather today so we have just vegged around the house, tidying the basement and putting up the presents given to us by Pat and Erica. It's been cold out these last two days so the skies have been nice and the windows at home are looking great.

Hannah has now started to eat real human food - such as Bananas, carrot, sweet potato, bolognese, baked beans, parsnip asparagus, egg and peanut butter. You might also have guessed that this food means that she s now also doing real poops!! No photos of that though - haha

It's so much fun watching her grow up so quickly.. Here's a few photos of our little half pint...

That's it from 2018 then - I'll be back in a couple of weeks! Hairy New Year!!
